Event Recap – 2007 Amgen Tour of California [top]
This year Garmin sponsored the Amgen Tour of California. The cyclists were treated to 700 miles of California wineries, coastline and mountains. Along with the grueling terrain, Garmin provided all the cyclists with an Edge 305. The spectators were treated to some amazing racing coupled with the opportunity to see their favorite pro cyclists in their own back yard. Though it rained for part of the Tour, athletes, crew and spectators alike enjoyed the week long event. This year´s Tour was won by Californian, and Santa Rosa resident, Levi Leipheimer.
Upcoming Event – 2007 Sea Otter Classic [top]
For the second year in a row, Garmin is sponsoring the Sea Otter Classic. And once again... the MotionBased team tracked and assembled the maps for this year's event. We even threw in some fun helmet cam action for the Mountain Bike Cross Country and Super D courses!!
This is the kick–off event for the entire cycling season. Cyclists from all over the world will be competing in mountain bike, BMX, and road cycling events. A truly exciting event, we´ll be at the Laguna Seca Recreation Park in Monterey from 12–15 April 2007.
How Fun Was That?! - Super Bowl Ad [top]
Garmin invested in a little advertising for the Super Bowl this year. During the second quarter, Super Bowl fans world wide got to see 30 seconds of Garmin Man´s battle against the evil and treacherous Maposaurus. In case you missed the commercial check out the spot on YouTube. And if thirty seconds just isn´t enough, check out the feature video made from extra footage from the commercial shoot.
MB Tip – That Migration [top]
So, after 1–1/4 years of being a part of Garmin, MotionBased finally merged with the administrative side. The migration has streamlined the registration process for those opening new accounts with both myGarmin and MotionBased. For new users you´ll need to register once (you used to have to register separately with myGarmin and MotionBased). For current users you´ll need to merge your separate accounts, or login to MotionBased and then follow the prompts to link to a myGarmin account you create through the login process.
MB Featured Athlete – Saul Raisin [top]
We just can´t say enough about our new favorite pro cyclist! We first met Saul Raisin and his parents in San Francisco, at the Prologue of the Amgen Tour of California. We were fortunate enough to be able to put an Edge 305 on him and track his rides as he rode ahead of the peloton for almost every day of the Tour. If you´ve not read his harrowing story you´ll want to. In April 2006 he survived a crash toward the end of a race that left him hanging between life and death. His goal for riding this year´s Tour was to bring awareness to his Raisin Hope Charity Ride on 31 March 2007. Check out Saul´s Digest to see the stages of the Tour that he rode, and to see his remarkable progress.
